Privacy
The Daily Office has no accounts, no advertising and no third-party trackers. The website and the apps count how many people pray each day, and nothing more.
What is counted
When a page is shown, the website or app sends our server a short note naming the page (the day, one of the hours, the ordo or the reminders page) and how it was shown: the light or dark appearance, a phone or a larger screen, a browser, the installed web app or a native app, the prayer form, at Prime whether the Martyrology was read, and whether today is the first day this browser or app has opened the Office (only yes or no is sent; the date you started stays on your device). The server adds one to that day’s totals. Each page counts once a day.
To count a reader once rather than at every page, the website keeps a random identifier in a cookie used for nothing else and sent only with these notes, and each app makes a fresh random identifier every day. The server stores only a fingerprint of that identifier combined with the date, deletes those after two days, and keeps only the daily totals, so nothing it keeps ties one day’s reading to another’s. Your browser’s ordinary description of itself is checked so that search-engine crawlers are not counted, and is not stored.
What is not collected
No names, email addresses, location, contacts, network addresses or advertising identifiers are recorded, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone. The site keeps no log of visits.
What stays on your device
Your settings (appearance, text size, prayer form and the Martyrology) and your time zone, which picks the day to show, are kept in your browser or the app. A reminder schedule lives entirely in the calendar link you make, or in the app on your phone; the server builds the calendar from that link each time and keeps no copy.
