St Mary Magdalene, Penitent

A woman * in the city which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the house of Simon the leper, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood behind at the feet of Jesus, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

℣.Mary hath chosen that good part.

℟.Which shall not be taken away from her.

Mary therefore * anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped them with her hair, and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

℣.Her sins, which are many, are forgiven.

℟.For she loved much.

℣.God hath chosen her and preferred her.

℟.He hath made her to dwell in his tabernacle.

May we be aided, O Lord, we beseech thee, by the intercession of blessed Mary Magdalene: in answer to whose prayers thou didst raise her brother Lazarus to life after he had been dead four days. Who with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit livest and reignest God, world without end.
