These are the holy ones, * who for the love of Christ despised the threats of men: in the kingdom of heaven, the holy Martyrs exult with Angels: O how precious is the death of the Saints, who stand unceasingly before the Lord, and are not separated one from another.

In the heavenly kingdom * rejoice the souls of the Blessed, who followed the footsteps of Christ their Master: and since for love of him they poured forth their life-blood, therefore with Christ do they exult for ever.

We beseech thee, Almighty God: that to-day we may receive the twofold joy of this feast in the triumph of blessed John and Paul, who were made brethren indeed by the same faith and the same martyrdom. Through thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth God, world without end.
