The ancient * carried the Infant, but the Infant governed the ancient: he whom a Virgin bare, and after bearing, remained virgin, the same was worshipped by her who bare him.

To-day * the blessed Virgin Mary presented the Child Jesus in the temple; and Simeon, filled with the Holy Spirit, received him into his arms, and blessed God for ever.
Collect
Almighty and everliving God, we humbly beseech thy Majesty; that, as thy only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in substance of our flesh, so we may be presented unto thee with pure and clean hearts, by the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Who with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth God, world without end.
