At I Vespers · Antiphon Common
This is a Martyr * who strove for his Master’s precepts, even unto death: and feared not the words of evil men, forasmuch as he was stablished on a sure foundation.
Versicle at I Vespers Common
℣.Thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, O Lord.
℟.And madest him to have dominion of the works of thy hands.
At Lauds · Antiphon Common
He that hateth his life * in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Versicle at Lauds Common
℣.The righteous shall flourish like a palm-tree.
℟.And shall spread abroad like a cedar in Libanus.
Collect
O God, who didst endue blessed Hermes thy Martyr with strength and constancy in his passion: grant unto us by his example; to despise for love of thee the prosperity of the world, and to fear none of its adversities. Through thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth God, world without end.
℟.Amen.
