This is a Martyr * who strove for his Master’s precepts, even unto death: and feared not the words of evil men, forasmuch as he was stablished on a sure foundation.

℟.And madest him to have dominion of the works of thy hands.
At Lauds · Antiphon Common
He that hateth his life * in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Versicle at Lauds Common
℣.The righteous shall flourish like a palm-tree.
℟.And shall spread abroad like a cedar in Libanus.
Collect Common
Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God: that we who honour the birthday of blessed Hermengild, thy Martyr, may by his intercession be strengthened in the love of thy holy Name. Through thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth God, world without end.
℟.Amen.
